Daybook

FOR TODAY
Tuesday, December 29, 2009... A Day Behind... Last Daybook of 2009

Outside my window... big snowflakes are lightly falling, piling on the 4 inches we got yesterday. The sun is shining. It's a beautiful day.

I am thinking... How nice it was to be able to visit my family for Christmas. And how nice it is to be back in my own home again. I always feel the need to organize after the holidays.

I am thankful for... family. And the fact that you can "always go home again."

From the kitchen... cookies and coffee (which my husband made!) for breakfast, thinking about making sausage & lentil soup for lunch (and for the freezer), and something good and comforting for dinner

I am wearing... jeans and a soft blue sweater from my mom

I am creating... I am unpacking. Creating lots of work for the washing machine.

I am going... did my errands this morning. Hoping to be home most of the day.

I am reading... my new Bible that was a gift from my husband. And a Christmas book, but I can't remember the title...

I am hoping... to keep the house more organized, to get the wedding pictures framed, and to finish painting the dining room. Scratch the last one-- I don't like painting-- I just want it done! :)

I am hearing... Family Life Today on the radio, occasionally the snow plow driving by

Around the house... the pile of stuff from the car which my husband so lovingly unpacked, is sitting in the kitchen.

One of my favorite things... snowy days when I don't need to leave the house

A few plans for the rest of the week... work, more Chiropractor visits, Christmas with my in-laws, Rose Bowl game-- Go Bucks! (although I am scheduled to work during it... GRRR)

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... For some reason, Blogger and my pictures aren't cooperating with each other. Maybe pictures later!

Daybook

FOR TODAY
Monday, December 21, 2009...

Outside my window... a thin layer of fresh snow. I think a little of the "white stuff" makes Christmas much more festive! We only got about 2 inches out of that Northeast Blizzard Saturday.

I am thinking... there is so much to do before Christmas! (I am sure everyone is thinking this... except for those of you who are really good at being productive ahead of schedule-- I'm a planner but a bit more of a procrastinator)

I am thankful for... my husband's gifts-- intelligence, thoughtfulness, resourcefulness. God blessed me beyond my imagination.

From the learning rooms... found a BJU Algebra text to help. It explains in more detail than the Saxon book. Combining the two seems to be a step in the right direction.

From the kitchen... still need to figure this out. Probably leftovers and cleaning out the fridge for most of the week. We'll be out of town for a long weekend.

I am wearing... flannel pants and a sweatshirt-- it seemed like a cozy option after a nice hot shower

I am creating... wrapping Christmas gifts and making gift baskets

I am going... hopefully to the Chiropractor, hopefully to pick up my car from the shop tomorrow, picking up wedding pictures tomorrow, some last minute Christmas shopping, Candlelight service Wednesday evening, and then PA for Christmas.

I am reading... just finished "Twas the Night Before" and hoping to finish "The Lighthouse Keeper" today. And the Moody Bible Institute "Today in the Word" devotions.

I am hoping... my neck/back/shoulders feel better soon. Hopefully seeing the Chiropractor today (I've never been to one, but my husband and in-laws go). 3 and a half days of ibuprofen, icy hot and heating pads have not helped.

I am hearing... It is really quiet. But I should be hearing the washing machine, as soon as I start it, of course.

Around the house... semi-organized with a pile of gifts waiting to be wrapped

One of my favorite things... When the first cup of coffee is perfect, when letters and cards come in the mail, when a pleasant person brightens my day

A few plans for the rest of the week... I am car-less today (which I guess means I have to clean/organize/pack, etc at home), then lots of busy errands/work/etc as we sprint to the finish...

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... Christmas in the 80s... I was about 4 in this picture.

FOR TODAY
Monday, December 14, 2009...

Outside my window... rainy and gloomy... where, oh where is the snow? :)

I am thinking... of Christmas gift ideas

I am thankful for... my job, even when it frustrates me, and for God knowing just what I need to read in my daily devotions

From the Learning Rooms... helping my brother-in-law with Algebra 2, and struggling (this is my first homeschooling experience). I haven't learned it in so many years, and I have no teaching experience, so I am struggling with how to help him. I am not a big fan of his textbook-- it doesn't show all the steps or give him enough practice.

From the kitchen... just coffee so far. Three Christmas parties this week which means two side dishes and one snack. Thursday is more Christmas cookies! I received two new cookbooks as birthday gifts, so perhaps dinner will come from there?

I am wearing... sweats, it's a comfy day so far

I am creating... the to-do list for the week

I am going... to choose to not stress about Christmas gifts

I am reading... The Lighthouse Keeper

I am hoping... to take a load of donations to Goodwill/SalVal

I am hearing... birds chirping outside, the occasional car driving by... soon time for Revive Our Hearts with Nancy Leigh DeMoss on the radio!

Around the house... attempting to clean out and organize... right before Christmas may not have been the best time, but you gotta do what you gotta do :)

One of my favorite things... waking up before my alarm goes off (this is such a rarity)

A few plans for the rest of the week... three Christmas parties (tis the season!), 3 work shifts, car to the garage (seems like all we do is fix this car), Christmas shopping, maybe Goodwill's 50% off sale, Church, the usual stuff as well... trying to slow down and enjoy the season

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... the start of the Christmas tree... it now has ornaments but I didn't get a good picture of that.

My new favorite decorating accessory!

*Please excuse the terrible picture*

I have a new favorite decorating accessory. It's not the branchy wreaths hanging everywhere in my home (although I believe I own about 6 of those).

It's spray paint. $4 to a changed look. Fabulous.

I bought a stained glass looking/ish mirror at an auction for $1. It needed a home. I thought it had potential. It also had a really ugly plastic fake-looking wooden frame. Upon removing the frame I found that the mirror was simply backed with paper to make it look like stained glass. The paper's gotta go. The frame's gotta be painted. And it's gotta be cleaned and re-assembled.

It will also need a home. I was thinking in my upstairs bathroom, but I believe it's going to be too small for the wall. I'm still hunting. Makes me want to re-paint everything.

Then I remember I don't like to paint. And the dining room still needs another coat. And all the trim in the house needs painted white (it's a dirty looking cream color). And I need to finish painting the kitchen. And the office.

Can you tell I am great at starting projects, but not finishing them?

And the camera batteries are dead. So pictures to come at some point...

:)

Daybook

FOR TODAY... Monday, December 7, 2009

Outside my window... overcast with the occasional snow flurry

I am thinking... every time I make the slightest progress of organizing/cleaning the house, it gets messy twice as fast... and i don't even have kids to blame it on!

I am thankful for... a thoughtful husband, and a helpful church family

I am wearing... flannel pants and a sweatshirt

I am remembering... this weekend last year... surprise birthday visit, Christmas lights, engagement :)

I am going... to make Christmas cookies this week!

I am currently reading... Three Days (I think that's the title)-- it's a fictionalization of what Mary went through when Jesus was in the tomb

I am hoping... work goes smoothly this week. I think I hope that every week.

On my mind... Christmas presents

From the learning rooms... Pastor Bill spoke yesterday about Jesus predicting his death 3 times, and the audacity of James & John asking to be seated at his right and left, then related that to how we approach God in prayer. We should approach with "humble boldness"-- being humble because of WHO we are approaching, but with boldness because HE has shown us His love in amazing ways. I learn so much from our pastors.

Noticing that... some days it is hard to make your own newly married traditions when your families have certain expectations of your time

Pondering these words... "But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand." -Romans 15:21 (Funny, because I asked a question about this the other day, but didn't know the reference, and it was the Verse of the Day on my calendar yesterday)

From the kitchen... haven't thought too far yet this week... probably pizza at some point, maybe pumpkin soup

Around the house... Christmas decorations! And lots of clutter... where does it come from???

One of my favorite things... is the first snow of the year. It is so magical. We're still waiting for it.

From my picture journal... Christmas lights that we went to see this weekend. The people that host it have a huge display to drive through.
